Cusco was for the Incas the centre of the Universe, from here the trails began toward the four suyu or parts of the Inca State covered with a network of 30,000 km of road. The Sacred Valley of the Incas, located halfway between Cusco and Machu Piccu, represented the "celestial river" or "Milky Way".
